Sporting Success!

This was our first sporting outing of the year and it definitely didn’t disappoint, coming 2nd overall out 15 teams from a range of schools from across the city and county.

We made the short walk to Marsh Lane and the Oxford City football ground where our festival was taking place. We were blessed with some great sunshine, which made the day all the more enjoyable for the children, staff and spectators.

Our team consisted of Abby, Grace, Betsie, Isla, Arthur, Cody and Quarmay from Year 6, along with Ray and Lowen from Year 5 (their first football outing for the school).

Our group consisted of 3 teams, with everyone playing each other twice. We had a strong Phil and Jims side and an energetic St Francis side to contend with. We came away from the group with three draws, 0-0, 1-1 and 1-1 and a good 1-0 win against St Francis. Ray was our chief goal threat throughout. All the team played superbly, Grace, Betsie and Abby making some great tackles, Arthur marshalling the midfield with Ray, Lowen just being everywhere. Quarmay was immense in goal, pulling off an incredible triple save in our third game. Cody and Isla were great at holding the ball up and were great at harassing at the defence.

We came 2nd in our group which meant we made it through the main cup quarter final. We came up against one of two St Joseph teams. This is where we played our best football as a team. Passing it brilliantly around and making it great runs in the opposition half. Quarmay was superb again in goal. We ran out 2-0 winner, with Ray and Lowen getting the goals. It was now semi-final time. We played the other St Joseph side, but the team were not fazed by this. We ran out 3-1 winners. Arthur opened the scoring with a great long range effort, Isla scored a brilliant second and Ray wrapped up the game with yet another goal. Onto the final against a very strong and physical Charlgrove side. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be in the end and 1-0 defeat meant that it was 2nd place for us. That being said the children were superb all day and played some great football. The children showed all their values throughout the day and did the school proud.

Well done to all children involved!
