St Nicholas’ Primary School uniform is smart and distinctive. The school colours are red and white.
As our school has a uniform – which parents generally prefer – we do expect every child to wear it.
Uniform Items and Colours
The main uniform items consist of:
- trousers, skirts, pinafores, short trousers – plain grey or black (no denim jeans)
- shirts, blouses, T-shirts, polo shirts – white or red
- summer dresses – white/red patterns
- school sweatshirt, cardigan or fleece with school logo – red
- pullovers, sweatshirts, cardigans – red
- footwear – sensible, comfortable footwear, flat shoes or trainers which do not rise above the ankles (no flip flops, jelly shoes or “high” heels).
We sell uniform items with the school logo on direct from the school, including polo shirts with a collar and red sweatshirts, cardigans and fleeces. They can be purchased from FOSNS PTA (Friends of St Nicholas’ Primary School) and order forms can be collected from the FOSNS PTA Box outside the school office. Links to the uniform suppliers are also provided at the bottom of this page.
Other items, such as girls’ skirts, trousers and dresses, and boys’ trousers, can be bought from high-street shops and supermarkets inexpensively.
We ask parents to uphold our uniform policy and maintain the good standards for which our school is known. If you have difficulty affording uniform at any time, please ask at the office as we may be able to help.
For health and safety reasons, children are not allowed to wear jewellery to school except for small, plain, stud earrings.
PE Kit
Clothing for PE should be kept in a named bag on your child’s peg. If for any reason a child is without a kit, they will be expected to wear one provided by the school. For safety reasons, long hair must be tied back for PE and any jewellery removed.
PE kit should be kept in a drawstring bag, and consist of:
- Black shorts
- Red or white t-shirt
- Black plimsolls or trainers
- Jogging suit (for colder weather).
For swimming lessons, children will need a swimming costume, towel and swimming hat. Swimming hats can be purchased from the school office.
Children need a letter from parents if they are unable to participate in PE.
Jewellery
Please do not allow children to wear jewellery to school. This includes rings and earrings. Plain studs are accepted for pierced ears, but not encouraged. They must be removed for days when your child participates in PE/swimming activities, including dance, games and gymnastics lessons. If your child has recently pierced ears, please tape them before coming to school. If your child comes for a lesson wearing large earrings, they will be asked to remove them for the lesson. Teachers cannot remove earrings.
School Bags
It is fashionable for children to bring very large sports bags to school but this causes us some problems. There is limited space in the cloakrooms, making it difficult to hang both coats and large bags on the pegs. Please keep bags to a sensible size.
All clothing must be labelled with your child’s name.
