Background

PE & Sport Premium is funding provided to primary schools, in additional to main school funding. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore, can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools. Initially the funding was only to be provided for 2013-14 and 2014-15, however since that time Prime Minister, David Cameron has committed to keeping the Primary PE and Sport Premium until 2020. It is for schools to decide how the PE and Sport funding is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made to enhance the provision for PE in school. Schools are held accountable for how they have used the additional funding.

 

PE & Sport Premium funding for the current academic year

Schools receive PE and Sport Premium Funding based on the number of pupils in Years 1 to 6. The funding for 2022-2023 is calculated on the following basis: Schools with 16 or fewer eligible pupils receive £1,000 per pupil. Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil.
